In 2013, under the leadership of former Union Minister Vayalar Ravi and then Panchayat President, a delegation from Piravom—including Adv. Chandran, P.K. Prasad, and Jambor Mathu—visited Delhi and submitted a request that led to the approval of a Railway Reservation Counter for Piravom. This counter has since served as a crucial support system for residents and students studying in other states. Along with the counter, a request for an air-framed facility was also approved through the efforts of Thampi Chettan from Piravom Puthukunnel, who worked as APS in Vayalar Ravi’s office. Now, the counter is at risk of being lost. To prevent this, the community must come together and support the cause. A formal request has already been sent via email to the Union Railway Minister and MPs. Let’s unite for Piravom and safeguard this essential service.
Ammayodoppam 12th Edition: A Day of Love, Blessings, and Gratitude
The 12th edition of the Ammayodoppam program, organized by the Rajiv Gandhi Cultural Forum, was a heartwarming celebration where around 800 mothers showered me with love and blessings. Traditionally organized on January 5 alongside church feast celebrations, this year’s event was held in a smaller format in strict adherence to COVID protocols. The program was inaugurated by MP Benny Behanan, who highlighted the social responsibility to care for elderly mothers often facing neglect, emotional distress, and physical challenges. KPCC Vice President V.J. Paulose presided over the function, while Rajiv Gandhi Cultural Forum Chairman Sabu K. Jacob delivered the keynote address. The event also honored ex-servicemen, distinguished professionals, artists, and educators from Piravom. Held at the Piravom Companions Club, around 500 mothers were honored in two phases, with kits delivered to another 100 mothers at their homes. The Piravom Rajiv Gandhi Cultural Forum continued its model charity initiative “Karunyam Karangalilekku” for the 9th consecutive year through the “Ammayodoppam” program, even during the COVID-19 pandemic. Held on January 5, 2021, at the Companions Club Auditorium, Piravom, the event honored widowed and underprivileged mothers by providing a set of clothes, food grain kits, medical kits from Nagarjuna Ayurveda, financial assistance, and N95 masks, strictly following COVID protocols. The program was inaugurated by former MP and KPCC Vice President K.P. Dhanapalan, with Rajiv Gandhi Cultural Forum Chairman Sabu K. Jacob presiding. During the KSRTC union referendum conducted across the state, a visit was made to the INTUC & TDF polling booth at the Piravom KSRTC Depot on 30 December 2020, extending greetings and support to the process. Another Feather in the Cap for Piravom Municipality
Piravom Municipality adds yet another proud achievement by becoming the only municipality with two suspension bridges and its own aircraft for students to see and learn from. HAL HJT-16 Kiran aircraft is being installed adjacent to the Piravom Children’s Park, based on a memorandum submitted in 2013 to former Defence Minister Sri. A. K. Antony by then Piravom Panchayat President Sri. Sabu K. Jacob, along with ward members Adv. Chandrasekharan, P. K. Prasad, and Jumper Mathew. Although the decommissioned Kiran aircraft was sanctioned earlier, the Indian Air Force has now finalized its handover after six years. Installation work has already begun and is expected to be completed within 20 days. This unique airframe will serve as a knowledge resource and inspiration for the younger generation, marking a landmark moment in Piravom’s journey of development and pride.

Piravom Municipality Implements Welfare-Oriented Projects for SC Community
As part of its annual plan, Piravom Municipality implemented multiple people-centric welfare schemes for the SC community, distributing 64 beds to senior citizens above 60 years of age and study tables with chairs to 24 students. In addition, 30 laptops will soon be distributed to SC students as part of educational support. The programme highlights the municipality’s strong commitment to timely execution of welfare projects, with the distribution inaugurated by Municipal Chairman Sri. Sabu K. Evening OP Services Launched at Piravom Taluk Hospital to Meet Public Demand
Responding to the long-standing demand of Piravom residents, the Piravom Municipality has launched evening OP services at the Piravom Taluk Hospital from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM. As part of this initiative, Dr. Harishma K. Vishwanathan, a young MBBS graduate with excellent academic performance and a native of Piravom Kalampur, along with Pharmacist Aswathi Ratheesh from Kannittumala, Piravom, were appointed with salaries funded by the municipality. The inauguration of the OP wing was carried out by Sri. Sabu K. Jacob, Municipal Chairman of Piravom, at a meeting chaired by Vice Chairperson Annamma Tomy. Hospital Superintendent Dr. Sunil Ilanthattu delivered the welcome address, while members of the Health Standing Committee, municipal councillors, and Hospital Management Committee members extended their greetings. TV–Tab Challenge Distributed to Support Online Learning for Students
Rajiv Gandhi Cultural Forum Piravom, in association with the Youth Congress Chottanikkara Mandalam Committee, distributed TV–Tab units to students to support online education at Chottanikkara Katadi Enclave. The programme was inaugurated by former Minister K. Babu, with Youth Congress Mandalam President Robin Thomas presiding. Former MLA V. J. Paulose and several leaders attended the event. Piravom Municipality Launches Time-Bound Green Initiative on World Environment Day
On June 5, Piravom Municipality launched one of the district’s best eco-friendly initiatives by distributing one cloth bag and one fruit sapling to every household, ensuring timely implementation of announced projects. The programme was inaugurated by honouring exemplary farmers Mecheri Kunjappan and Anjana with a cloth bag and fruit sapling. As part of the initiative, coconut saplings were distributed at the Piravom Agricultural Improvement Society, and a fruit sapling plantation drive was inaugurated by the Mid Town Residents Association in Division 9. The association also committed to the responsibility of nurturing and maintaining the planted saplings. The initiative reflects the municipality’s collective vision of sustainable development, led with dedication by Sri. Sabu K. Jacob, Municipal Chairman of Piravom.
Cloth Bag and Fruit Sapling Distribution Project Launched in Piravom
As part of World Environment Day celebrations, Piravom Municipality launched a green initiative to distribute one cloth bag and one fruit sapling to households across all 27 divisions. Around 8,000 homes received eco-friendly cloth bags with a 10 kg capacity along with saplings carrying the message “Plant a tree, protect nature.” The project was inaugurated at the Municipal Council Hall by Municipal Chairman Sri. Sabu K. Jacob by handing over the first set to senior farmer Kunjappan and farmer Anjana. Vice Chairperson Annamma Domi presided over the function, with municipal councillors and Agriculture Officer Chandana Ashok in attendance. Public Handwash Stations Installed to Prevent COVID-19 Spread in Piravom
In a joint initiative by Piravom Municipality and Piravom Janamaithri Police, common handwash basins were installed at the municipal bus stand and in front of the municipal office to promote personal hygiene and prevent the spread of COVID-19. State Municipal Chairpersons’ Chamber General Body Meeting Held in Thiruvananthapuram
The State Municipal Chairpersons’ Chamber General Body Meeting was inaugurated in Thiruvananthapuram on January 29, 2020, by Hon. Education Minister Sri. C. Ravindranath, who announced that ₹3,000 crore worth of waste management projects with World Bank assistance would begin across Kerala municipalities this year. During the meeting, the demand to treat polluted water flowing from Piravom town and market into the river and release it back as clean water was accepted, with officials confirming funding support under the project, based on the intervention of Sri. Sabu K. Jacob. The session also included discussions on the LIFE–PMAY scheme, with classes led by senior IAS officials and state-level administrators.

The Piravom Area Conference of the Ayurveda Medical Association of India (AMAI) was inaugurated at the St. Joseph High School Auditorium, Piravom. National Senior Citizens’ Friendly Workshop Held in Thiruvananthapuram
At the National Senior Citizens’ Friendly Workshop held in Thiruvananthapuram, discussions focused on formulating new initiatives for the care and welfare of the elderly, with special emphasis on health care and support systems. During the deliberations, the Vayomithram Project implemented by Piravom Municipality was recognized as the best project in the district. In addition, the “Ammayodoppam” program conducted every year on January 5 by the Rajiv Gandhi Cultural Forum received wide appreciation and was acknowledged as one of the best initiatives in the State for caring for elderly widowed mothers. Mission Director Hari Kishore IAS specially commended the project. The workshop was inaugurated by Local Self-Government Minister A.C. Moideen, with KILA Director Dr. Joy Ilamon presiding. World Senior Citizens Day – Piravom Vayomithram Initiative
On 1st October, World Senior Citizens Day, Piravom Municipal Chairman Sri Sabu K. Jacob flagged off parents from the Vayomithram Clubs to attend the senior citizens’ conference at Ernakulam Town Hall. Under the Vayomithram program, the municipality allocates ₹20 lakh annually to provide comprehensive health check-ups, medicines, and care for residents over 60, with services delivered via municipal vehicles every 15 days. Piravom Student Karthik Suresh Amazes Industry by Building a Low-Cost Electric Bicycle; Rajiv Gandhi Cultural Forum Extends Support
Karthik Suresh, a Plus Two student of MKM Higher Secondary School, Piravom, has emerged as a shining example of talent, determination, and self-belief. Born to parents who work as tailors and live in a rented house without owning a home of their own, Karthik proved that innovation does not depend on wealth. While commercially available electric bicycles cost around ₹70,000, Karthik successfully designed and built a superior electric bicycle at just ₹15,000, astonishing even reputed companies. Recognised as a young innovator with a scientific mindset, his invention has already been showcased at IIT Chennai, CUSAT, Rajagiri, and the Electric Vehicle Expo in Kochi, where it won several accolades. With a vision to develop a low-cost electric bike, Karthik approached for support. What stood out was his strong self-confidence and clarity of purpose. Recognising his potential, the Rajiv Gandhi Cultural Forum decided to fully support this project financially. At a meeting held under the chairmanship of Onan Kunju, Principal of MKM Higher Secondary School, the first installment of financial assistance was handed over by Sabu K. Jacob, Chairman of Piravom Municipality and Chairman of the Rajiv Gandhi Cultural Forum. Cultural Forum Vice President Kurian Pulickal, Biju Abraham, and teachers Shaji, Abhilash, and Benny also addressed the gathering. Piravom Municipality Ranks First in District for Karunya Assistance Scheme
Piravom Municipality has secured first place in the district for the Karunya Assistance Scheme, extending ₹17 lakh worth of support to differently-abled citizens. The initiative covers motorized wheelchairs, hearing aids, artificial limbs, tricycle scooters, annual scholarships for differently-abled children, and comprehensive support for all deserving beneficiaries. Launch of the “Clean Piravom” Waste-Free Initiative
The “Malinya Muktha Piravom” (Waste-Free Piravom) initiative has been launched across all 27 wards of Piravom Municipality, marking a major step toward sustainable waste management. Under this project, plastic, leather, e-waste, and other non-food waste materials will be collected directly from households, with trained members of the Haritha Karma Sena selected from 50 Kudumbashree women carrying out the operations. The inauguration of household enrolment began at the residence of Dr. Joy Nedungeli in the 25th Division. Collected plastic waste will be processed at the municipality’s Kannettumala plant using a new shredding unit and reused for road tarring, while other waste will be handed over to Clean Kerala Company. The municipality seeks the wholehearted cooperation of residents to make Piravom a model waste-free town, as conveyed by Municipal Chairman Sri. Sabu K. Jacob.
Pazhur Riverfront Park Inaugurated in Piravom Municipality
The Pazhur Aattutheeram Park of Piravom Municipality was inaugurated by Hon. Tourism Minister Kadakampally Surendran, with MLA Anoop Jacob presiding over the function. Urgent Action Sought for Unsafe Padavettipalam Bridge in Piravom
Due to the dangerous condition of the Padavettipalam bridge on the Piravom–Pambra stretch of the Kaduthuruthy–Nedumbassery Road, which has recently led to vehicle accidents, the matter was personally brought to the attention of the Hon. Public Works Minister G. Sudhakaran, along with photographic evidence of the bridge’s condition. The urgent need for immediate repair of the bridge and re-tarring of the Piravom–Oliyappuram–Nadakkavu highway, despite the completion of tender procedures, was strongly emphasized, as the project had been delayed due to flood-related revisions. The issue has also been brought to the attention of MLA Anoop Jacob, and the Minister has assured swift action on both matters, following the intervention and efforts of Sri Sabu K. Jacob.
Piravom Municipality Advances Healthcare with New Ayurveda Departments
As part of Piravom Municipality’s rapid development initiatives, the newly launched Orthopaedics Department and Ano-Rectal Clinic at the Palachuvadu Ayurveda Hospital were inaugurated, marking a significant milestone in public healthcare. The hospital has been recognised as the best Ayurveda hospital in the district and now offers the services of seven specialist doctors, along with a newly started minor operation theatre for piles and fistula treatments. Sri. Sabu K. Jacob, Municipal Chairman of Piravom, oversaw the inauguration of a state-of-the-art dialysis unit at Piravom Taluk Hospital on 13th January 2019. Built with KIFBI funding of ₹1.2 crore from the state government, the unit features 8 beds and can serve 8 kidney patients simultaneously. The entire operational cost is included under the municipal project. This unit marks the first of 17 development initiatives being inaugurated by the Piravom Municipality, reflecting the commitment to provide compassionate healthcare services to the community.
Congress Protest Demands Immediate Repair of PWD Roads in Piravom
Congress workers staged a protest by laying siege to the Piravom Public Works Department office, demanding urgent repairs to the severely deteriorated PWD roads in the municipality. The agitation, led by KPCC Secretary Jason Joseph along with Municipal Chairman and KPCC Executive Member Sri. Sabu K. Jacob, pressed for the completion of tarring works on the pothole-ridden Piravom Bridge and Kochupally–Kollickal Road before the January festival season, and for the preparation of a DPR to rebuild the dangerously dilapidated Padavetti Bridge. The protest was withdrawn only after authorities accepted these demands. Protesters also criticized the state government for alleged discrimination against Piravom, pointing out that while neighboring flood-affected constituencies received substantial funds for road repairs, Piravom received only limited allocation. Several Congress leaders, municipal councillors, and party workers participated in the protest.
Piravom’s First Suburban Mall Nears Completion
Piravom Municipality, in collaboration with SUPPLYCO, is completing Kerala’s first suburban mall, a seven-story complex built at a total cost of ₹14 crore. പിറവം: പിറവം പഞ്ചായത്തിനെ മാലിന്യമുക്തമാക്കാനായി പഞ്ചായത്ത് ആവിഷ്ക്കരിച്ചിരിക്കുന്ന കര്മപദ്ധതിക്ക് തുടക്കമായി. കമ്മ്യൂണിറ്റി ഹാളില് നടന്ന ചടങ്ങില് ജില്ലാ പഞ്ചായത്ത് പ്രസിഡന്റ് എല്ദോസ് കുന്നപ്പിള്ളി പദ്ധതി ഉദ്ഘാടനം ചെയ്തു. വിവിധ സ്കൂളുകളിലെ കുട്ടികള് അവരുടെ വീടുകളില് നിന്നും പരിസരങ്ങളില് നിന്നുമായി ശേഖരിച്ച പ്ലാസ്റ്റിക് മാലിന്യങ്ങള്, അതിനായി ഗ്രാമപഞ്ചായത്ത് അവര്ക്ക് നല്കിയ സഞ്ചികളില് നിറച്ച് കൊണ്ടുവന്നത് കൗതുകമായി. നൂറുകണക്കിന് കുട്ടികള് ഈ യജ്ഞത്തില് പങ്കാളികളായി. കുട്ടികള് കൊണ്ടുവന്ന മാലിന്യങ്ങള് പഞ്ചായത്ത് ശേഖരിച്ച് സംസ്കരിക്കുകയായിരുന്നു. പിറവത്തെ മാലിന്യമുക്തമാക്കാനുള്ള കര്മപദ്ധതിയുടെ ഭാഗമായി 30 മൈക്രോണില് താഴെയുള്ള പ്ലാസ്റ്റിക്കിന്റെ വില്പനയും ഉപയോഗവും പഞ്ചായത്ത് നിരോധിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്. ഇനിയും ശേഷിക്കുന്ന പ്ലാസ്റ്റിക് സമാഹരിച്ച് സംസ്കരിക്കുന്നതിനുള്ള നടപടിയുടെ ഭാഗമായാണ് പഞ്ചായത്ത് സ്കൂള് കുട്ടികളുടെ സഹായം തേടിയത്. യോഗത്തില് ഗ്രാമപഞ്ചായത്ത് പ്രസിഡന്റ് സാബു കെ. ജേക്കബ് അദ്ധ്യക്ഷനായി. ജനകീയാസൂത്രണ പദ്ധതിയിന്കീഴില് വികലാംഗര്ക്ക് അനുവദിച്ച സഹായ ഉപകരണങ്ങള് ബ്ലോക്ക് പഞ്ചായത്ത് പ്രസിഡന്റ് ഷെര്ളി സ്റ്റീഫന് വിതരണം ചെയ്തു. ബ്ലോക്ക് പഞ്ചായത്തംഗങ്ങളായ ഷിജി ഗോപകുമാര്, പ്രദീപ് കൃഷ്ണന്കുട്ടി, ഗ്രാമപഞ്ചായത്തംഗങ്ങളായ അഡ്വ. കെ.എന്. ചന്ദ്രശേഖരന്, സി.എം. പത്രോസ്, ജമ്മര് മാത്യു, കെ.കെ. ബിജു, ജോര്ജ് നാരേക്കാടന്, പി.കെ.പ്രസാദ്, കെ.പി. സലിം, സുഷമ രവീന്ദ്രന്, ബിന്ദു ബാബു, കുഞ്ഞുമോള് തോമസ്, ബിജു റെജി, മോളി പീറ്റര്, ലത അശോകന്, സാലി കുര്യാക്കോസ്, സാറാമ്മ പൗലോസ്, വിവിധ രാഷ്ട്രീയകക്ഷി പ്രതിനിധികളായ തോമസ് മല്ലിപ്പുറം, ഇ.എസ്. ജോണ്, ഏലിയാസ് മങ്കിടി, മോഹന്ദാസ് മുകുന്ദന്, ഉണ്ണി വല്ലയില്, ജില്സ് പെരിയപ്പുറം, സോജന് ജോര്ജ്, മര്ച്ചന്റ്സ് അസോസിയേഷന് പ്രസിഡന്റ് എം.ടി. പൗലോസ്, വി.ജി.എന്. നമ്പൂതിരിപ്പാട്, ജോണി തെന്നശ്ശേരില് തുടങ്ങിയവര് പങ്കെടുത്തു. ബിനു ഇടക്കുഴി കുട്ടികള്ക്ക് പ്ലാസ്റ്റിക് വിരുദ്ധ പ്രതിജ്ഞ ചൊല്ലിക്കൊടുത്തു. പ്രശസ്ത ബാല മജീഷ്യന് അശ്വിന്രാജ് ഇലഞ്ഞിമറ്റം പരിസ്ഥിതി സംരക്ഷണ സന്ദേശം ഉള്ക്കൊള്ളുന്ന മാജിക് പരിപാടി അവതരിപ്പിച്ചു. വൈസ് പ്രസിഡന്റ് അന്നമ്മ ഡോമി സ്വാഗതവും സെക്രട്ടറി ഷിബു ജോര്ജ് നന്ദിയും പറഞ്ഞു.

A leisure boat cruise was launched along the Piravom river stretch, from the Panchayat jetty to the Kalampoor Irrigation Project jetty, under the guidance of Sri Sabu K. Jacob. Sri Sabu K. Jacob highlighted that the initiative offers an affordable and scenic experience, allowing visitors to enjoy the natural beauty of the Muvattupuzha River, with nominal fares for children and adults. Sri Sabu K. Jacob also noted that this month-long programme creates a unique opportunity for the public to experience the river’s charm up close.

The volleyball match at Piravom was inaugurated by the District Panchayat President in the presence of Sri Sabu K. Jacob, marking strong support for sports development, youth engagement, and community participation in the region. Sri Sabu K. സമ്പൂര്ണ മാലിന്യ നിര്മാര്ജനത്തിനായി പിറവം കന്നീട്ടുമാലയില് മാലിന്യ സംസ്കരണ പ്ലാന്റ് ഉടന് സ്ഥാപിക്കും.ഇതിനായി 45 ലക്ഷം രൂപ പഞ്ചായത്ത് ബജറ്റില് വകയിരുതി.പിറവം ജനതയുടെ മാലിന്യ പ്രശ്നംപരിഹരിക്കുന്നതിനുള്ള ഇതോടെ വഴി തെളിഞ്ഞു .വര്ഷങ്ങളായി പിറവത് മാലിന്യപ്രസ്നം കൊണ്ട് ജനങ്ങള് പലപ്പോഴും സമരത്തില് എര്പെടരുണ്ട് .ഇതിനായി ജില്ല പഞ്ചായത്തില് നിന്ന് 25 ലക്ഷം രൂപയും എം .പി ഫണ്ടില് നിന്നും 5 ലക്ഷം രൂപയും ഉള്കൊള്ളിച്ചാണ് പ്ലാന്റ് നിര്മിക്കുന്നത് മുഴുവന് പുരുഷ മത്സ്യ തൊഴിലാളികള്ക്ക് വളയും സ്ത്രീകള്ക്ക് ചെരുവവും നല്കും ..
