This counter has since served as a crucial support system for residents and students studying in other states. Along with the counter, a request for an air-framed facility was also approved through the efforts of Thampi Chettan from Piravom Puthukunnel, who worked as APS in Vayalar Ravi’s office. Now, the counter is at risk of being lost. To prevent this, the community must come together and support the cause. A formal request has already been sent via email to the Union Railway Minister and MPs. Let’s unite for Piravom and safeguard this essential service.

The district’s first Karunya Health Kit initiative was launched in Piravom Municipality, with 1,000 health kits distributed to economically disadvantaged patients during the COVID-19 pandemic, in association with BPCL Kochi Refinery and the district administration, under the leadership of Sri. As part of its annual plan, Piravom Municipality implemented multiple people-centric welfare schemes for the SC community, distributing 64 beds to senior citizens above 60 years of age and study tables with chairs to 24 students. Responding to the long-standing demand of Piravom residents, the Piravom Municipality has launched evening OP services at the Piravom Taluk Hospital from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM. As part of this initiative, Dr. Harishma K. Vishwanathan, a young MBBS graduate with excellent academic performance and a native of Piravom Kalampur, along with Pharmacist Aswathi Ratheesh from Kannittumala, Piravom, were appointed with salaries funded by the municipality. The inauguration of the OP wing was carried out by Sri. Sabu K. Jacob, Municipal Chairman of Piravom, at a meeting chaired by Vice Chairperson Annamma Tomy. Hospital Superintendent Dr. Sunil Ilanthattu delivered the welcome address, while members of the Health Standing Committee, municipal councillors, and Hospital Management Committee members extended their greetings. Rajiv Gandhi Cultural Forum Piravom, in association with the Youth Congress Chottanikkara Mandalam Committee, distributed TV–Tab units to students to support online education at Chottanikkara Katadi Enclave. On June 5, Piravom Municipality launched one of the district’s best eco-friendly initiatives by distributing one cloth bag and one fruit sapling to every household, ensuring timely implementation of announced projects. The programme was inaugurated by honouring exemplary farmers Mecheri Kunjappan and Anjana with a cloth bag and fruit sapling. As part of the initiative, coconut saplings were distributed at the Piravom Agricultural Improvement Society, and a fruit sapling plantation drive was inaugurated by the Mid Town Residents Association in Division 9. The association also committed to the responsibility of nurturing and maintaining the planted saplings. As part of World Environment Day celebrations, Piravom Municipality launched a green initiative to distribute one cloth bag and one fruit sapling to households across all 27 divisions. Around 8,000 homes received eco-friendly cloth bags with a 10 kg capacity along with saplings carrying the message “Plant a tree, protect nature.” The project was inaugurated at the Municipal Council Hall by Municipal Chairman Sri. Sabu K. Jacob by handing over the first set to senior farmer Kunjappan and farmer Anjana. Vice Chairperson Annamma Domi presided over the function, with municipal councillors and Agriculture Officer Chandana Ashok in attendance. The State Municipal Chairpersons’ Chamber General Body Meeting was inaugurated in Thiruvananthapuram on January 29, 2020, by Hon. Education Minister Sri. C. Ravindranath, who announced that ₹3,000 crore worth of waste management projects with World Bank assistance would begin across Kerala municipalities this year. During the meeting, the demand to treat polluted water flowing from Piravom town and market into the river and release it back as clean water was accepted, with officials confirming funding support under the project, based on the intervention of Sri. Sabu K. Jacob. The session also included discussions on the LIFE–PMAY scheme, with classes led by senior IAS officials and state-level administrators.

On 1st October, World Senior Citizens Day, Piravom Municipal Chairman Sri Sabu K. Jacob flagged off parents from the Vayomithram Clubs to attend the senior citizens’ conference at Ernakulam Town Hall. Under the Vayomithram program, the municipality allocates ₹20 lakh annually to provide comprehensive health check-ups, medicines, and care for residents over 60, with services delivered via municipal vehicles every 15 days. Karthik Suresh, a Plus Two student of MKM Higher Secondary School, Piravom, has emerged as a shining example of talent, determination, and self-belief. Born to parents who work as tailors and live in a rented house without owning a home of their own, Karthik proved that innovation does not depend on wealth. While commercially available electric bicycles cost around ₹70,000, Karthik successfully designed and built a superior electric bicycle at just ₹15,000, astonishing even reputed companies. Recognised as a young innovator with a scientific mindset, his invention has already been showcased at IIT Chennai, CUSAT, Rajagiri, and the Electric Vehicle Expo in Kochi, where it won several accolades. With a vision to develop a low-cost electric bike, Karthik approached for support. What stood out was his strong self-confidence and clarity of purpose. Recognising his potential, the Rajiv Gandhi Cultural Forum decided to fully support this project financially. At a meeting held under the chairmanship of Onan Kunju, Principal of MKM Higher Secondary School, the first installment of financial assistance was handed over by Sabu K. Jacob, Chairman of Piravom Municipality and Chairman of the Rajiv Gandhi Cultural Forum. Cultural Forum Vice President Kurian Pulickal, Biju Abraham, and teachers Shaji, Abhilash, and Benny also addressed the gathering. The annual review meeting of local self-government institutions in Ernakulam district was held at the Kakkanad Collectorate under the chairmanship of Hon. Minister C. Raveendranath. Piravom Municipality has secured first place in the district for the Karunya Assistance Scheme, extending ₹17 lakh worth of support to differently-abled citizens. The “Malinya Muktha Piravom” (Waste-Free Piravom) initiative has been launched across all 27 wards of Piravom Municipality, marking a major step toward sustainable waste management. Under this project, plastic, leather, e-waste, and other non-food waste materials will be collected directly from households, with trained members of the Haritha Karma Sena selected from 50 Kudumbashree women carrying out the operations. The inauguration of household enrolment began at the residence of Dr. Joy Nedungeli in the 25th Division. Collected plastic waste will be processed at the municipality’s Kannettumala plant using a new shredding unit and reused for road tarring, while other waste will be handed over to Clean Kerala Company. The municipality seeks the wholehearted cooperation of residents to make Piravom a model waste-free town, as conveyed by Municipal Chairman Sri. Sabu K. Jacob.
The Pazhur Aattutheeram Park of Piravom Municipality was inaugurated by Hon. Tourism Minister Kadakampally Surendran, with MLA Anoop Jacob presiding over the function. Due to the dangerous condition of the Padavettipalam bridge on the Piravom–Pambra stretch of the Kaduthuruthy–Nedumbassery Road, which has recently led to vehicle accidents, the matter was personally brought to the attention of the Hon. Public Works Minister G. Sudhakaran, along with photographic evidence of the bridge’s condition. The urgent need for immediate repair of the bridge and re-tarring of the Piravom–Oliyappuram–Nadakkavu highway, despite the completion of tender procedures, was strongly emphasized, as the project had been delayed due to flood-related revisions. The issue has also been brought to the attention of MLA Anoop Jacob, and the Minister has assured swift action on both matters, following the intervention and efforts of Sri Sabu K. Jacob.
As part of Piravom Municipality’s rapid development initiatives, the newly launched Orthopaedics Department and Ano-Rectal Clinic at the Palachuvadu Ayurveda Hospital were inaugurated, marking a significant milestone in public healthcare. The hospital has been recognised as the best Ayurveda hospital in the district and now offers the services of seven specialist doctors, along with a newly started minor operation theatre for piles and fistula treatments. Sri. Sabu K. Jacob, Municipal Chairman of Piravom, oversaw the inauguration of a state-of-the-art dialysis unit at Piravom Taluk Hospital on 13th January 2019. Built with KIFBI funding of ₹1.2 crore from the state government, the unit features 8 beds and can serve 8 kidney patients simultaneously. The entire operational cost is included under the municipal project. This unit marks the first of 17 development initiatives being inaugurated by the Piravom Municipality, reflecting the commitment to provide compassionate healthcare services to the community.
Congress workers staged a protest by laying siege to the Piravom Public Works Department office, demanding urgent repairs to the severely deteriorated PWD roads in the municipality. The agitation, led by KPCC Secretary Jason Joseph along with Municipal Chairman and KPCC Executive Member Sri. Sabu K. Jacob, pressed for the completion of tarring works on the pothole-ridden Piravom Bridge and Kochupally–Kollickal Road before the January festival season, and for the preparation of a DPR to rebuild the dangerously dilapidated Padavetti Bridge. The protest was withdrawn only after authorities accepted these demands. Protesters also criticized the state government for alleged discrimination against Piravom, pointing out that while neighboring flood-affected constituencies received substantial funds for road repairs, Piravom received only limited allocation. Several Congress leaders, municipal councillors, and party workers participated in the protest.
Piravom Municipality, in collaboration with SUPPLYCO, is completing Kerala’s first suburban mall, a seven-story complex built at a total cost of ₹14 crore. The mall features 6500 sq. ft. per floor, with the ground and fifth floors reserved for the municipality and the remaining five floors for SUPPLYCO. The ground floor will be handed over to the municipality on 15 January 2019, and operations will commence from the new building before 31 March 2019, including a mini civil station. The mall, whose construction began in 2013 under Minister Anoop Jacob, will include a SUPPLYCO supermarket, food court, mini amusement park, jewelry stores, and ready-made showrooms, bringing modern shopping experiences to residents. The rally witnessed the participation of 220 NCC cadets from BPC College, Piravom; TMJM Government College, Manimalakunnu; St. Joseph HSS, Piravom; MTM HSS, Pampakuda; and Government Model HSS, Palakuzha.
